Remembering Jud Larson
The Jud Larson Memorial Award is a C.A.R.B. Award in memory of the man who made racing his career. Jud Larson was a hard-drinking, hard-diving racer, a colorul character from the days when few drivers survived to retire, and roll cages were for sissies. He was a regular at the Indianapolis 500 and was the 1956 Silver Crown champion. Jud was the leader in USAC points in 1966. At a USAC Spring Car race at the Reading Pennsylvania Fairgrounds, a racing accident took his and another racer's life. During Jud's almost thirty years in racing he set many track records, one being at the old dirt Lakeside Speedway. He is considered a dirt track legacy and in 1968 was inducted into the Indy Hall of Fame and in 1992 was inducted into the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame.
